Robyn will be teaching Vitality through Movement - 4 Sessions in Awareness Through Movement®, an introduction to the Feldenkrais Method

In this series you will do a variety of unconventional movement sequences in a group setting. The lessons are verbally guided by the teacher. They are gentle and safe and accessible to all and allow you to move at your level. This class will enable you to:

  • Identify and overcome habits that no longer serve you
  • Discover new functional movement patterns
  • Improve ease, flexibility, clarity and coordination
  • Experience and enjoy increased vitality and awareness of your possibilities and wellbeing
  • Move and grow together in a welcoming and inclusive environment

Robyn's journey to become a practitioner began in 2011 on the day her then three year old daughter had her first NeuroMovement lesson at the ABM Center in California. The changes observed that first day were so amazing that Robyn was determined to understand the method's transforming ability.  Click to read more about Robyn.

What is the Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement®?

NeuroMovement uses movement in all its forms (for example taking in and processing sensory information and thinking are also forms of movement) to give new experiences and information that improve the functioning of your brain. This in turn aids in the creation of new neural pathways which help you learn, perform and think better. Anat Baniel was a student and one of the first practitioners and trainers of the Feldenkrais Method. She has since gone on to adapt and refine the work, most notably for children with disabilities, and has articulated her 9 Essentials for positive brain change.

What is the Feldenkrais Method?

Moshe Feldenkrais (1904–1984) was an innovative scientist and engineer who loved movement and Judo. As a young man he injured his knee so severely that he was offered amputation and a prosthetic as his only hope to resume walking. A man of great curiosity and innovation, he succeeded in regaining function in his leg by turning his scientific mind to understanding how humans learn to move. He created educational processes to regain his own function and these became the basis for helping others through group classes known as Awareness Through Movement® and private Functional Integration® sessions. A key focus of the Feldenkrais Method is that it is an educational modality of guided self learning and self knowing. The method is accessible to all and uses sensation, attention, creativity and movement to make personal discoveries that lead to change, growth and improved function.

About Robyn Roper

Robyn is passionate about helping and facilitating others to find their way beyond limitations, out of pain and to do what they love using the Anat Baniel Method of NeuroMovement and the Feldenkrais Method.

Growing up Robyn loved sports, arts and crafts and animals. Her studies included history in art, visual arts and textiles, natural sciences, biology and zoology. She enjoyed volunteering then working as a wildlife biologist, rehabilitator and environmental educator with the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation.

When her daughter was born having suffered a major stroke Robyn consciously chose to change paths to help her daughter. Searching for modalities to help their child develop, grow and learn optimally the family found the Anat Baniel Method of NeuroMovement. On the first day of lessons Robyn watched her daughter transform and light up and in that moment became determined to join the ABM NeuroMovement training. Robyn also felt a strong calling to share the work with others so they could feel hopeful and light up too.

Robyn loves to work privately with children with disabilities and their families as well as with adults and those looking to reconnect with their sense of vitality by overcoming pain, limitations and loss of function following physical and neurologic injuries. Over the years as her experience, knowledge and understanding deepens, Robyn has done many additional workshops as well as a 4 year Feldenkrais training and aims to always be in the process of learning so she can better assist others. She is embarking on teaching group classes, a longtime dream to bring this work to even more people.

Robyn can also be found around Victoria walking her Bedlington Terrier, volunteering with her family at the Beacon Hill Children’s Farm, enjoying Victoria’s coffee shops and kayaking.
