PROGRAM SUMMARY
What is Warm Data?
Warm data is a specific kind of information that shows how the parts of a complex system interact to give vitality to that system. It is equally relevant whether the system is members of a family, organisms in the ocean, social institutions, or departments of organizations, i.e. any complex system.
'Warm Data illustrates vital relationships between many parts of a system’ ~ Nora Bateson
Why use Warm Data?
Though it may seem easier to frame complex issues in simple terms that lead to concrete solutions, such linear thinking most often serves to further complicate the problems — especially the “wicked” problems of today.
Warm Data labs address the question:
“How do we think our way through the messes we’re in, when the way we think is part of the mess?”
Warm Data labs bring people into dialogue around complex issues; the magic is in participants’ own experience, making new associations, linkages, and perceptions, as people engage in mutual learning together.
Developed by Nora Bateson, Warm Data Labs have been held around the world and across diverse contexts. They are designed to increase people’s ability to respond to difficult issues.
Rochelle Fairfield is a multi-talented generalist who has worked in diverse roles, from transforming multi-stakeholder conflict in BC’s commercial fishing industry to leading a technology ethics non-profit. She is a long-time student of Zen, has coached social service leaders in Vancouver’s downtown east-side, and mentored Pacific Integral’s Generating Transformative Change program.
Rochelle began training with Nora Bateson during the pandemic and became a certified Warm Data host. She delights in offering Warm Data Labs where people learn together, in wonder.
*** We invite you to bring a friend, co-worker, family member or neighbour. This event is initially open to 50 people, after which a waitlist will be kept should more spaces open up. It will not be recorded. ***
This event is jointly supported by Programs in Earth Literacies and Regenerate Greater Victoria.
